I really like your quote about "you are not what you have done, or what happened to you as a result of using." I'm going to remember that one.

Trauma is bad in and of itself and because the trauma complicates the recovery.

Oh you don't want my horror stories, i will say this, even in all that has happened to my child she has maintained a sense of innocence, I do not know but I have always told her you are not what you have done, or what has happened to you as a result of your using. (In this sensitive area) These things can be very hard on the parents as well. Unfortunately within drug rings this plays out more often than one would think.

Hi Milo --Yes, I'm American. I'm not sure where you are from, but maybe there is some cultural reason that you think I should feel shame about posting about this story. I don't feel at all ashamed because I care enough about this girl and many more boys and girls like her to talk about what is happening to them. As I said in the post, it is a very sad story. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't talk about it. I think this story has a lot to do with recovery. I see recovery in terms of reducing risk and harm and recovering from past drug-related harm. This young person was at high risk because she had been using heroin from about age 14 and injecting from about age 15, her father seemed to have some awareness about this but was not effective in responding to it, and her drug use helped place her in very risking circumstances. I think that's important to recognize and talk about.

Thanks for reading and commenting!

You should be ashamed of yourself. hmmmm....I bet you are american.

Heartbreaking on so many levels. Something has to change before we lose a large percentage of this current generation of young people to this evil drug. I have a blog that deals specifically with rape, think I will link to this. My main focus and passion used to be preventing sexual abuse, now that takes a backseat to drug abuse. Ugh. http://rapesexualabuse.blogspot.com/
