Tom – just read your comment on “Recovery Happens” re: blaming the addict/Ant’s dire circumstances. Honestly, I am totally amazed and blown away by your perspective – things I’ve never really considered before. I was brought up to find blame in every situation. I find your comments very helpful in providing me with a new sensitivity to addicts and their paradigm that is very different from my own. Please visit my blog and my last post. With your help and others’, I have turned the corner on a few things. peglud.wordpress.com

Tom,

Just happened on this website when searching “sober houses and methadone”. I love this site! You touch on the important facts clearly and concisely. You mentioned that its very difficult to find a MAT sober house. I absolutely see the need and am considering opening one in Austin. I’d love feedback. Thanks!

Thanks Kim. It is difficult to find sober houses that are supportive of people in treatment with methadone or buprenorphine. Even some of those who accept people in medication-assisted treatment often are not really supportive of MAT. It sounds like your sober house would be different. Let me know if I can help in any way.

Hi Tom–
I found your excellent blog via Bill Ford’s Dadonfire where I’ve contributed some of my work to. I’m an addiction specialist in suburban Philly working with teens and young adults and have started to more fully embrace harm reduction appproaches in my work.
Your blog is a great resource and I plan to share it via social media.
Keep up the good work!
Barry
